Your first five minutes

  1. Open JimiOS. There’s no Dock icon. Look for J1 · 2 (or similar) in the menu bar: workspace 1, with two tiles.
  2. Watch it tile. The standard windows on your current desktop line up side by side. Dialogs and a few apps float where macOS put them.
  3. Open a new window. Put your pointer over the left half of a tile and open a window (for example ⌘N in Finder). The tile splits and the new window takes the left half. Try again with the pointer on the right.
  4. Move the focus. Press ⌃⌥← (Control-Option-Left) and ⌃⌥→. A thin coloured border follows the focused window.
  5. Move a window. Press ⌃⌥⇧→ (Control-Option-Shift-Right). The focused window swaps with its neighbour.
  6. Change the layout. Press ⌥R. A message names the new layout: dwindle left, then master, then dwindle right again.
  7. Use a second workspace. Press ⌥⇧2 to send the focused window to workspace 2. Press ⌥2 to follow it. “Workspace 2” flashes up, and the menu bar shows J2. Press ⌥1 to come back.
  8. Make one window big. Press ⌥F to fill the screen with the focused window. Press ⌥F again to put it back.
  9. See every key. Press ⌥/ (Option-slash). Press ⌥/ or Escape to close the panel.
  10. Know the way out. ⌃⌥⌘Escape (Control-Option-Command-Escape) puts every window back on screen and quits JimiOS. Use it any time something looks wrong.
